watch my room tour:

A cave filled with light. This is one of the most beautiful coupling of words to me. They're the words Alexander McQueen used to describe the vision for his flagship stores. From the moment I first heard them several years ago, they've stuck.

When I decided to redecorate my bedroom, those were the first words to enter my mind. I can't say that I was able to replicate Alexander McQueen's exquisite vision, because I had little (read: none) control over the architecture of my space, but I did attempt to imbue my room with that charming aesthetic that I like to describe as reverse goth: an inundation of white so pure, yet the sheer abundance makes it unsettling.

But while I love the beach gothic appeal of an all white room, I wanted to avoid designing a space that felt sterile and cold, which is the risk with white monochrome. To make sure that my bedroom turned out dreamy, warm, and cozy, I layered lots of different textures and mixed shades of white and ivory. All to create depth and the allusion of a cloudscape. To foolproof the warm vibes, I piled candles onto every surface, and, as I am a huge animal lover, I snuck several critters into my room, like the lion resting on the knob of my nightstand, and the bird on driftwood that lives inside the beautiful bell jar ring holder by Imm Living.

It's so funny to look back at this video, where I talked about my goal and vision for my new bedroom, and the process that would help me achieve it. Sitting under my canopy and looking around at my completed room, the tangible manifestation of my words from just a few months ago, I can happily confirm that these four steps work like a charm.

I hope you enjoyed this virtual tour, and I will leave you with these words again, because I cannot think of a more sublime concept to end on, to dwell on, than a cave filled with light.
